I’ll admit. I was leery at first.
We stayed at a motorcoach resort two blocks from the French Quarter (our second experience a bit different from the first). While it was all that you needed and the location ended up being perfect, it was in an area where you got a cab back after 10 p.m. Follow that up with a walk into the French Quarter nearing Bourbon Street for the first time, and the smells/general cleanliness were quickly contradicting my expectations for the city (which were quite high).
However, each minute spent walking around the streets and experiencing the truly unique “flavor” that is New Orleans had me wanting more almost immediately. Vibrant in all senses, New Orleans is expectedly and unexpectedly beautiful around each turn. She was as delicious as the cuisine within her walls.
Within 30 minutes of leaving, we missed her.
Your pics capture the flavor. Are the parks that close to N.O. pretty safe, then?

@ChrissyGoebel – we felt perfectly safe. There was one spot walking from the French Quarter back that was a bit concerning, but it is an easy cab ride.
